Christmas in Nigeria

The weather during Christmas is not only expressed in degrees, but even has a name: Harmattan.

About half of the Nigerian people celebrate Christmas eve, Christmas day as well as boxing day with their family. Presents are unwrapped on boxing day, the 26th.

The dishes enjoyed during that time are also available on any other day of the year: Jollof rice, fried rice and pounded yam (Fufu), served with different kind of soups such as okra soup, spinach soup, vegetables soup, Gbegiri etc.

Houses are decorated with Christmas lights and trees, and sometimes with hand-made crafts too. You hear the common Christmas songs everywhere, and movies portraying the birth of Jesus Christ are watched.
