Christmas in Japan

“Meri-kurisumasu” from Japan! It’s cold but only the North is covered with snow during Christmas. Some people decorate their flats and you find a lot of public illuminations.

Actually Christmas is nothing traditional for us, so we adapted Santa Claus. We definitely celebrate it when there are children in the family. Roundabout 80% of the Japanese people do something special on the 25th: Anything from having a Christmas menu with your partner in a fancy restaurant to a Christmas party in a bar with friends. We also open the presents on that morning.

People think we should eat turkey, but really specific food will be served for New Year!
