In most regions of France the weather is cold, but not below zero and dry. We set up the Christmas tree with its decoration in the beginning of december. Additionally we have a crib, an Advent wreath and an Advent calendar. Public places are brightly decorated, too and we like Christmas markets, where Tartiflette is an often eaten dish.
We don’t have one fixed date to open the presents: it’s either the 24th or 25th. It’s a custom to put one slipper underneath the Christmas tree on the 24th and on the next day you find it filled with sweets. Religious people are going on the 24th at midnight to the church. Except that Christmas is a wonderful food festivity:
- appetiser such as Foie gras, oyster, smoked salmon
- chestnuts as encart
- goose
- Champagner
- Bûche de Noël
